On The Brink: Precariousness in British sculpture by women, 1979-1993
This thesis examines the contributions made by women to the field of British sculpture during the period 1979-1993. Women experienced widespread art world exclusion during the late 1970s. By the early 1990s, a generation of women were achieving international recognition for innovative work employing a range of precarious materials, methods and ideas. Examining art and life together, this thesis interrogates the complex ramifications of occupying the brink.
